My grandfather’s house may be gone but they declared the barrier islands under Marshall Law so if we try to get it, we’ll be shot.
No power for an estimated 15 days at my parents house. No hot water.
I sat on line for almost 4 hours this morning to have a gas attendant, who walked passed my car, tell me they were waiting for gas to be delivered and there wasn’t any guarantee it would be there by 7pm (it was 11am mind you). My neighbor also informed me he caught someone trying to siphon gas out of his car last night. Oh and people are stealing generators, breaking into cars for battery chargers and what not…
Everyone’s losing it.
And Mantaloking, after having the bridge taken out by a floating house, is still. on. fire.
I somehow got a ride to Newark International Airport, and I’m in Pittsburgh at my boyfriend’s apartment. I took a hot shower, have a cup of earl grey, and a warm bed to sleep in tonight.
I watched the Atlantic Ocean flow down my street, into my backyard, and into the back of our house. We live about a mile from the beach, mind you— with two waterways between us and IT. Luckily we didn’t have any trees fall in our yard, and the water damage is minimal, so we can focus all of our efforts on trying to find my grandfather’s house in Seaside Park somehow. :(
Oh and yesterday I got kicked off what’s left of the Belmar beach because Obama showed up. That’s kinda cool or something. I don’t know. I’m totally burnt out.
When I get home from PA, I’ve got bags of clothes and what not that are in decent enough shape that I can donate them. Hopefully someone out there REALLY likes the color black.
Oh and p.s. I hadn’t seen a single utility truck other than various tree removal companies, and yes i saw FEMA trucks! Just regular trucks with magnets on the sides! They’re stationed at most Home Depot’s in NJ right now!
